COURTLAND – Our beloved Southampton County Public School teacher and administrator for 36 years, Deacon Roger C. Myrick Sr., has died at the age of 89. Deacon Myrick transitioned peacefully on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Deacon Myrick was a lifelong educator serving in various capacities of leadership as a principal, assistant principal and teacher in the Southampton County Public School System.

He was married to the late Amphia Mae Rouson Myrick for 64 years, leaving behind two sons, a granddaughter, a host of relatives, friends and former students.

A wake for Deacon Myrick will be in the Engram Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5.

The funeral for Deacon Myrick will also be in the Engram Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. Visitation and viewing times in the Engram Funeral Home are from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5 and noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. The interment with military honors will be on March 6 in the Mill Neck Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral.
