HILLSBOROUGH, New Jersey – Charles Wadell Bailey Sr. of Pineywoods Drive, Hillsborough, New Jersey, departed his earthly life on Dec. 5, 2020, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset.

He was born on Sept. 16, 1938, in Southampton County to William T. and Gladys Bailey.

Charles married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Boone and together they made New Jersey their home.

Charles graduated from Southampton County Training School in Courtland, where he was known for his athletic abilities especially in the sport of football. He was a true family man who made it a priority to call his family members weekly. He continued this communication until he was no longer able.

After 35 years of service, Charles retired from Wakefern Food Corporation in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sharon Bailey; and two brothers, Charles David Wright and John L. Bailey (Carolyn).

He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful wife, Evelyn Bailey; son, Charles Bailey Jr.; two sisters, Gladys Dixon of Houston, Texas, Barbara Brown of Pemberton, New Jersey; two special sisters-in-law, Lydia and Victoria; one special brother-in-law, Willie Hayes Boone; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.

A public viewing will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. in Care Memorial Gardens in Courtland, with Elder Subrina Whitehead officiating.
