FRANKLIN

Franklin City Public Schools is presenting “12 days of holiday magic” – a series of virtual and in-person holiday-themed events concluding with a drive-through festival of lights at all three of the division’s schools.

Dec. 1-3, the division offered a virtual Christmas coloring contest, Zoom holiday sing-a-long and holiday pet outfit contest. In lieu of downtown Franklin’s annual Christmas parade, which has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, on Dec. 4, the city will host a drive-through event on Main Street where children can see Santa Claus and drop off their letters.

On Dec. 5, there will be another opportunity to drop off Santa letters at the Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland from 9:30-10:30 a.m. during a Santa and Grinch drive-by. Then, paint an ornament in downtown Franklin from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fred’s Restaurant parking lot at the corner of Main Street and Third Avenue. This event is intended for children 12 and under, and will include music from Cecil and Ronnie Edwards and a visit from Santa. The Downtown Franklin Association will also have a drop-off for the annual Trooper Hill Toy Drive.

On Dec. 6, the FCPS community will have family movie night. Register at surveymonkey.com/r/FCPSMOVIE by Dec. 4 to receive streaming information.

On Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Frankl Rabil will read “Frosty the Snowman” to all community children. The video will be posted to the FCPS YouTube channel and on the fcpsva.org website.

On Dec. 8 from 6-7 p.m. students can participate in the “Decorate with Me” holiday cookie decorating event. Register at fcpsva-org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_2c5LWz8vSVmFiGA-mSKC3g, passcode: 064920.

On Dec. 9, family holiday photos will be published. Submit your pictures at surveymonkey.com/r/FCPSFAMILY by Dec. 7. Submit pictures of yourself in your ugly holiday sweater by Dec. 9 to see them published Dec. 10.

On Dec. 11, FCPS students can register for the “Shake it Up” Christmas party from 6-7 p.m. on Zoom. Register at: fcpsva-org.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMlcO2oqj4iGtJk5-1L8Hnbb6vFR9xl377K.
