Franklin City Public Schools traditionally offers an in-person Thanksgiving dinner, which, in past years, has served more than 400 community members. But this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the school division to redesign the annual event.

This time, FCPS will be providing a drive-through Thanksgiving basket event, which will provide families with the groceries they’ll need to cook a full Thanksgiving meal in their homes.

“Our goal is to serve 150 families with children who attend our schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Tamara Sterling. “We are requesting support from our community partners in the form of donations, monetary or in-kind.”

The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 21 at S.P. Morton Elementary School. Families who have registered will be able to pick up their groceries via a drive-through. The division hopes to have all items needed purchased and in place by Nov. 20.
