SOUTHAMPTON MEADOWS

Five sisters — Javonda House, Jakita House, Shakiera Williams, Shakylla Williams and Shakendra Williams of Southampton County — decided one day they were going to start making a difference in the mobile home park community, Southampton Meadows.

They started with mowing a few overgrown yards and hauled trash from sheds that accumulated over time, such as when an elderly resident couldn’t get a ride to the dump. In addition, the sisters ran errands and ended up painting the entrance sign for the mobile home park.

“If we want change, we have to do it ourselves,” said Javonda House the oldest of the sisters. “We have a Go Fund Me page set up for help to get a new playground installed and maybe pave or patch a few streets. Only one person donated $20; however, we are still putting in the work to make things happen. We need the help, but we will do the best we can with the help of our creator who provides all things.

“I appreciate the park managers Barbara and Mac for all the help to get the project done. We will make it happen one day at a time.”
