IVOR

An Ivor man is reported dead after the car in which he was a passenger overturned on Tuesday afternoon.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said that troopers were called at approximately 1:58 p.m. to a single vehicle accident on Route 10, east of Route 680, in Surry County. Christina R. Mramor, the driver of a 2008 Mazda Tribute, reportedly lost control of the car, ran off the roadway and into a cutover. The vehicle then struck a tree stump in the cutover, causing it to flip and roll over.

Malcom R. Johnson of Broadwater Road in Ivor was the front-seat passenger, and was not wearing his seat belt; he was ejected from the car. Johnson, 29, died at the scene shortly thereafter. Mramor and a back-seat passenger, Demarcus A. Gatling, 43, were transported to Southside Regional Memorial Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation, Anaya stated, adding that possible charges are pending, after consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

Notification has been made to family members of the deceased.
