The Virginia Department of Transportation announces it has reopened Route 671 (General Thomas Highway) between the intersections of Route 734 (Handsom Road) and Route 650 (Shady Brook Trail) in Franklin following a successful double-barrel box culvert replacement.

On Tuesday, contractor Allan Myers completed the $777,777 project, on time and on budget.

The former three-pipe culvert was replaced with a new concrete double-barrel box culvert, paved shoulders and an updated guardrail system.

Construction began in June 2020.
