FRANKLIN
Franklin’s City Council voted 5-2 on Monday to appoint Tanya Smith as the Ward 3 representative to the city school board.
The dissenting votes came from Councilmen Mark Kitchen and Greg McLemore.
Smith succeeds former school board Vice Chairwoman Andrea Hall-Leonard, who stepped down at the end of June after completing three consecutive three-year terms, the maximum allowed under the City Code.
The Council then voted, this time unanimously, to appoint Jerry McCreary to the Ward 6 seat. He succeeds Jessica Grant-Banks, who abruptly resigned during a school board work session in early June.
