FRANKLIN — Fannie Denson Spain Bristow, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 21, 2020.
She was born on April 23, 1929, to the late Edward W. Denson and Jennie Barrett Denson. She was predeceased by S. Coral Bristow, her loving husband of 28 years, and stepson, Neil Bristow.
Born and raised in Southampton County, Fannie graduated from Franklin High School in 1946. She worked at Brown and Williamson for some time while living in Colonial Heights, but returned to Franklin where she worked for many years at the Verizon telephone company. After retirement, she spent her time working alongside her husband, Coral and daughter, Beverly at City, Paint & Supply in downtown Franklin.
Fannie was a devoted member of Franklin Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Blackcreek-Burdette Ruritan Club and the Ladies Auxiliary for American Legion Post 73. She spent many hours volunteering at the East Pavilion Nursing Home and taking care of family and friends.
Fannie never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone that needed an extra hand. She was dedicated to all of her extended family and loved each one unconditionally.
Fannie is survived by her son, Larry Spain (Patsy); daughters, Cheryl Bass, Marilyn Payne, Jean Creech (John) and Beverly Myers (Tom); stepson, Hunter Bristow (Judy); stepdaughter-in-law Robin Bristow; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Naomi Rainey.
A private graveside service will be held with Pastor Steve Gibson officiating.
