FRANKLIN — Mary Jane Pace Herring, 96, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in East Pavilion.

She was born in Charlottesville and was a longtime resident of Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Mary Jane was a graduate of Lane High School in Charlottesville and a member and longtime Sunday School teacher at Ahoskie First Baptist Church.

She was a volunteer and auxiliary member at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

The thousands of golfers that entered the golf shop at Beechwood Country Club in the ’60s and ’70s always saw her smiling face and outgoing personality. During summers, parents would drop off their kids to play golf or at the swimming pool knowing they would be well taken care of by the Herrings. She was loved by her many friends especially her legendary bridge club. She also dedicated many years involved in the Northeastern Amateur golf tournament at Beechwood.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Daniel Edward “Dan” Herring Jr. (Teresa) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Jack David Herring (Joan) of Courtland and Charles Ernest Herring (Carolyne) of Colonial Heights; five grandchildren, Trey Herring (Lucas), Allison Elliott (Ben), Melissa Herring (Sandy), David Herring and Courtney Voigtman (Thomas); three great-grandchildren, Logan Herring, Grayson Herring and Haley Byrum; and a former daughter-in-law, Cynthia Rose (Larry).

The family would like to thank the staff of the East Pavilion for their wonderful care.

Mary Jane is predeceased by her husband, Daniel Edward Herring; her mother, Katherine Pace; and her brother, Linwood Pace.

Services will be private.
