Funding to allow college to improve learning environment

FRANKLIN

A budget amendment that was approved by the General Assembly and requested by Del. Roslyn Tyler (D-75) will provide Paul D. Camp Community College with the funding needed to replace the outdated heating, ventilation and air conditioning system on the Franklin campus.

According to Operations Manager Phillip Bradshaw, who worked closely with Tyler and her staff on the request, more than half of the units are not working properly at the College Drive main building location.

“The funding will allow for the complete removal of the current HVAC units, including all the associated piping and the old boiler that was used to provide heat to the building,” he said. “A new system will be installed that will operate via an extremely high energy efficient process, which will reduce our costs as well.”

According to Tyler, she was happy to be in the position to assist with securing the funding.

“I was pleased that Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn appointed me to the House Appropriation committee and to serve as a House conferee that appropriated $2,200,000 in the state budget in March for Paul D. Camp Community College,” Tyler said. “This money will benefit Paul D. Camp Community College with maintenance projects that will create a comfortable environment for students that is conducive to learning.”

Paul D. Camp President Dr. Daniel Lufkin noted that being able to get this project underway sooner than expected is very uplifting.

“We are so grateful to Del. Tyler and her staff for working with Phillip to push this budget legislation through to the General Assembly,” he said. “The completion of this project will benefit faculty, staff, students and the community for years to come.”

The HVAC project is expected to get underway in August.
