Road closure of Route 609 begins as early as Tuesday

COURTLAND

Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Route 609 (Popes Station Road) in Courtland beginning as early as Tuesday, June 30, through late summer 2020 while safety improvements are made at the intersections of Route 58 (Southampton Parkway) and Route 609.

A signed detour will be in place directing motorists to use Route 654 (Rawlings Road),Route 656 (Bryants Church Road) and Route 658 (Barrow Road).

From Route 58 west to Route 609 south:

· Turn Right on Route 656 (Bryants Church Road)

· Turn Right on Route 658 (Barrow Road)

· Turn Left on Route 609 south (Popes Station Road)

From Route 58 east to Route 609 south:

·Turn Left on Route 654 (Rawlings Road)

·Turn Right on Route 609 south (Popes Station Road)

Travelling Route 609 north:

· Turn Left on Route 654 (Rawlings Road)

· Turn Right on Route 58 east (Southampton Parkway)

· Turn Left on Route 609 north (Popes Station Road)

The safety project includes adding one new right turn lane from Route 58 east onto Route 609 south and one new right turn lane from Route 58 west onto Route 609 north. Night work is permitted when required and all construction work is dependent upon weather conditions. The estimated construction completion date is fall 2020.
