Local clubs help pay down school lunch debt
NEWSOMS
Despite COVID-19 shutting down the schools, the GFWC Tarrara Woman’s Club and Boykins Lions Club continued their collaboration to collect funds to offset the delinquent lunch program at Meherrin Elementary School.
With clubs not holding regular meetings for several months the amount collected was substantially less than last year. Principal Rikeita Jones assured the club members that the funds were greatly appreciated and would help reduce the $5,000-plus that is owed while paying down completely the debts of several students at that school.
The Woman’s Club project is Change4Change and each month members contribute loose change and donations they have received from others who wish to participate. The Lions Club again agreed to match the funds collected up to $300. As shown in the photo, the check presented to the school was $735.
