Let the summer games begin! Camp Community College is actively recruiting players for it new eSports facility located on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus on Kenyon Road.
Whether your forte is Fortnite, Rocket League or the more intense League of Legends, the Camp Hurricanes Arena is nearly fully equipped and ready for use.
“We’ve been working on this new aspect of the athletics program at Camp for a year,” said Hurricanes eSports Sponsor Joe Edenfield. “The pandemic has caused some equipment delays along the way, but we are almost set.” He added that the facilities department at Camp has really worked hard, prepping and painting the area and setting up equipment.
To raise awareness and interest, Camp will host some online tournaments over the summer.
“We hope to begin competitive play this fall,” said Edenfield. “The first was a Rocket League tournament that kicked off May 9.”
In July, Camp will join the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and TESPA, a network of students, competitors and club leaders formerly known as The eSports Association and the Texas e-Sports Association.
“I am excited about getting this going,” Edenfield said. “We have state-of-the-art HP Omen computers and are working on purchasing some broadcasting equipment that will allow us to stream our tournaments.”
