Isle of Wight County Schools has stationed four school buses at areas throughout the county to provide an additional resource for families who may not have internet access at home. IWCS spokeswoman Lynn Briggs announced that the buses are located at the Otelia Rainey Center, 33475 Carver Road, Franklin; Bethany Presbyterian Church, 5358 Zuni Circle, Zuni; First Gravel Hill Baptist Church, 15042 Carrollton Blvd., Smithfield; and the Carrollton Cove Shoppes, 5230 Old Stage Highway, Smithfield. With the exception of the Camptown site (dawn to dusk access only), all will offer WiFi 24/7. The buses will be parked in these locations through the end of the current academic year.

“The hope is that families can use these hot spots to download assignments for their children that can be worked on at home,” Briggs stated. “In addition to the buses, all nine schools in the division have a wireless signal accessible from their parking lots.”

She added that people should use the IWCS Secure network if they have a school-issue device, and the IWCS Guest network for all other devices.

Signals are also available at other county facilities such as courthouse complex facilities, the fairgrounds, Parks and Recreation buildings and public libraries. Other locations that may have free WiFi are: Community Electric Cooperative at 52 W. Windsor Blvd., Windsor; grocery stores such as Food Lion and Kroger; fast food restaurants; and Camp College’s Smithfield campus.
