WINDSOR

Isle of Wight County’s power grid seems to have been spared any significant damage from a series of storms that blew through the area Sunday and Monday.

The National Weather Service’s Wakefield Station reported that some gusts of wind exceeded 50 to 60 miles per hour, and had forecast as of Monday afternoon that gusty winds would continue through 4 or 5 p.m. that evening. Yet Dominion Energy’s online power outage map indicated only 47 of its 14,327 Isle of Wight customers were without electricity as of just after 4 p.m.

Community Electric Cooperative, which is headquartered in Windsor, reported no outages in Isle of Wight or Surry counties as of early Monday afternoon, and only one outage in neighboring Southampton County, which was reported resolved as of just after 4 p.m.

Franklin Power & Light, which serves the city of Franklin and some areas outside the city limits, also reported no outages as of Monday afternoon.
