In consideration of how the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is strongly affecting Southampton County — and likely for quite some time — the residents have been granted an extension to make payment of their solid waste management fee. The deadline to pay the $200 per residential household has been moved from Tuesday, March 31, to Sunday, May 31.
The money supports the solid waste convenience centers as well as the transfer and disposal of solid waste dropped off at those locations.
The county’s Board of Supervisors made the emergency ordinance during an electronic meeting on Thursday afternoon.
In the statement, the supervisors declared, “…that it is in the best interests of the residents of Southampton County to take certain actions, among which is an extension of the due date for payment of the solid waste management fee.”
This ordinance, signed by Vice Chairman William Hart Gillette, became effective immediately.
