At least 254 people across Virginia have officially been diagnosed with COVID-19, according to new numbers released by the Virginia Department of Health on Monday.
That is a 16-percent increase from Sunday’s reported number of 219. The number has more than doubled since Friday.
About 3,697 people have been tested for the virus in Virginia. There have been 38 people hospitalized and six deaths associated with the virus.
Cases in the Western Tidewater Health District hold steady at two — one in Suffolk and one in Isle of Wight County. The district also encompasses Southampton County and Franklin.
Dr. Todd L. Wagner, WTHD director, who is also serving as spokesman, told The Tidewater News, “There are no confirmed COVID-19 cases at this date/time in Franklin or Southampton County. We are working on a contact investigation for a male patient in his 50s from Isle of Wight that was recently discharged from the hospital and is now in home isolation.
“The previous Isle of Wight case was a woman in her 20s who tested positive for COVID-19. She was informed that she was a contact of another positive COVID-19 case and later sought testing/treatment when she became symptomatic. She is isolating herself and recovering at home.”
