FRANKLIN — James Curthbert “Jimmy” Roberts III, 71, passed away on March 18, 2020, in his home.

Born in Richmond and a lifelong resident of Southampton County, he was the son of the late James C. “Jay” Roberts Jr. and Frances Cobb Roberts. Jim was also predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Christine Nettles Roberts.

He was a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Jimmy was a retired Beater Engineer on No. 3 paper machine at International Paper, and was a member of VFW Post 4411.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Stephanie Christine Roberts; his grandson, Alex Cole; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

The private funeral will be on Saturday, March 21, with the Rev. James. W. Browder III officiating.

Viewing will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or any Suicide Prevention group.

Due to the Coronavirus situation, a celebration of life gathering will take place at a later date.
