He was an outstanding athlete in basketball and was recognized as an All-Region player in his time. On graduation, Britt matriculated to Virginia State University where he was awarded a full four-year basketball scholarship.

During his time at Virginia State University, Britt was a captain of the basketball team for three years. He scored over 1,000 points, had over 500 assists and continues to hold the record for the highest number of steals.

In 1994, Gerald graduated from Virginia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. On completing his degree, Britt went on to begin his career with Xerox Corporation. He has been with Xerox for 26 years and has served in several different capacities; his current role is general manager for the Commonwealth of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Britt resides in Glen Allen with his wife, LaChanda Britt, whom he met while matriculating at VSU. They have been married for 18 years and have two beautiful daughters, London and Taylor.

Also, Britt is active in the community. He serves as the vice president of the Henrico Education Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that supports the educational needs of Henrico County Schools.

As part of his commitment to giving back and serving the community, Britt will be working with the Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in Franklin, Virginia. Effective this school year, he will provide an annual scholarship to a college-bound senior from Franklin High School that will be attending a historically black college or university.
