WINDSOR — David Winfield Claypoole, 75, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2020, in his home with his family by his side.
He was the son of the late Horace and Barbara Claypoole, and beloved by his stepmother, Geanne Claypoole.
After decades with Firestone, David worked through the end of his life privately as a general contractor, leaving his love of craft and woodwork behind on several local building sites and projects.
Left to cherish his memory is his extensive family and network of friends. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Claypoole; his two daughters, Shannon Whitley of Carrsville and Amy Johnson of Dover, Delaware; his son, Robert Drew Claypoole (Angela) of Hampton, and their mother Sandra Edwards; his bonus and stepdaughters, Courtney Joyner of Powhatan and Michelle Menninger of Front Royal, Virginia. Additionally, his five grandchildren: Tyler Whitley, Hunter Whitley, Zuri Claypoole, Canaan Claypoole and Asher Claypoole, and bonus grandchildren, Hudson and Hunter Joyner, Brooke Gayle, Dylan Gayle, Skyla Gayle and Colton and Dolton Menninger.
The celebration of his life will be in the evening of Friday, March 27, at the Bronco Rod and Gun Club in Franklin, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations are made to the American Cancer Society.
