FRANKLIN

The National Weather Service’s Wakefield station has increased its snow forecast for the Franklin area.

As of Wednesday morning, the NWS is now predicting a 60-percent chance of snow on Thursday evening, with one to two inches of possible accumulation.

There is a 50-percent chance of rain mixing with snow after 5 p.m. on Thursday, but little to no accumulation is expected until shortly before midnight.

Pretreatment of roads in Franklin will begin tomorrow morning, Feb. 20, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Suffolk office. Crews will be treating the roads with brine, which increases the freezing temperature of the surface, helping to prevent ice on the road.
