Capron Elementary School recently hosted an Epic Build Showcase to invite parents and community members to see what the students have been accomplishing with their computer science immersion program titled “Code to the Future.”

Each child in grades kindergarten through fifth was able to demonstrate his or her Code to the Future project. The guests were given the chance to see how the students have been transforming learning through computer science.

“This program has been an extraordinary opportunity to shape the future of how our children learn and prepare for a professional future driven by technology,” said Kathy Thompson, media specialist for the school. “Through the partnership with Code to the Future, teachers have been able to engage students through block and text-based coding activities to enhance their educational experiences through computer science.

“Students now have another avenue to apply problem-solving, team-building and presentation skills as they collaborate and share their thinking process with peers. The students have been inspired to become aware of their incredible potential as they are being equipped with the skills necessary for success in life and school in our digital future.

“The opportunities that computer science will bring the students is unlimited as they gain the knowledge needed to prepare them for the future. The teachers believe it is their duty to prepare their students to enter into adulthood with a well-rounded understanding of not just how to use technology, but also how to create, critically think and capitalize on their foundation in computer science instruction.”
