Wind advisory issued for Franklin, Southampton County

FRANKLIN

The National Weather Service’s Wakefield Station has issued a wind advisory for Franklin and Southampton County, which will extend through 4 p.m.

The NWS reports that southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph. Significant tree damage is expected, including uprooted trees and falling limbs and branches. Numerous power outages are also expected.

As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, 868 Dominion Energy customers in Southampton County are without power, and another 844 are out in Isle of Wight County, according to Dominion’s online outage tracker. Franklin Power & Light has also received several calls this morning regarding tree limbs falling onto power lines, but so far, no outages in Franklin have been reported.
