SUFFOLK — Betty Powell Richards, 84, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020.

She was born in Gwynn’s Island, Virginia, to the late Nellie Hurst and Frank Linwood Powell. She is also predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Elvin “Buddy” Richards Sr.; children, Theresa Norfleet, Thomas E. “Tommy” Richards Jr. and Barry Richards; and sister, Kathleen Hutson.

She was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose Chapter 1315 at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 141.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Lynn Richards Blythe (Don) and Cathy Richards Byrum (Billy); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Bobby and Buddy Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty’s graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.

Visitation will be on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home & Crematory.
