COURTLAND — Clyde Hayes Vaughan, 87, passed away on Jan. 29, 2020, in his home with his family by his side.
He was a son of the late Clyde and Martha Lankford Vaughan, and was also predeceased by a sister, Jean Hicks and a brother, Richard Lee Vaughan.
Clyde was a retired Lead Lab analyst at Hercules Inc., and a former high school basketball referee.
He was a member of Courtland Baptist Church, having formerly served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
Clyde was a collector of antique battery-operated toys, and always eager to give advice on the stock market.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Bateman Vaughan; two daughters, Dianne Guse (Steve) of Williamsburg, and Donna Howell (David) of Courtland, Virginia; two sons, Dean Vaughan (fiancee’ Babbi Slack) of Berlin, Maryland, and Doug Vaughan (Carla) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; two stepdaughters, Pamela Mihovch (C.C.) of Wanchese, North Carolina, and Susan Johnson of Winterhaven, Florida; a sister, Peggy Holland (Frank) of Suffolk; a twin brother, Carl Vaughan (Ann) of Brentwood, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his dog, Sir Tesla, and cat, Prissy.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday in Wright Funeral Home, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Southampton County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 70, Courtland, VA 23837.
