SUFFOLK — Willie “Jake” Jones of Corinth Chapel Road, Suffolk, Virginia, departed this earthly life on Jan. 9, 2020.

He was born on April 1, 1929, in Southampton County to John and Cora Whitehead Jones.

“Jake” was a member of Mill Neck Baptist Church in Como, North Carolina, for many years.

He was employed for 33 years with Union Camp Paper Corporation and retired in 1991.

“Jake” was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Winnie Ashburn Jones; children, Bessie Cross, Willie S. Jones and Timothy Jones; siblings, Jim A. Jones, Phillip Jones, Johnny Jones, Joe F. Jones, Paul Jones, Annie L. Holley, Elizabeth Hunt, Beatrice Banks, Maggie J. Walton and Cora Sharpe.

His memory will be cherished by his daughters, Elsie J. Lawrence, Diane J. Faulk, Patricia L. Jones, Phyllis Cumbo, Cassandra Clark (Larry); sons, Larry Jones (Mary), Donel Jones (Shana), Anthony Jones (Frances), Leondris Scott; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His life’s celebration will be on Saturday, Jan. 18, at noon, in Apostolic Faith Church of God, 608 Oak St., Franklin, with the Rev. Samuel Buck delivering the eulogy; Overseer Ronnie Warren is the host pastor. His remains will be placed in church for viewing by 10 a.m. The committal and benediction will follow in Southview Cemetery.

The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
