A career in law enforcement isn’t for everyone. It often involves long days, night shifts and potentially putting yourself in harm’s way every time you respond to an incident. In small communities and rural areas like Franklin and Southampton County, it isn’t just incident response either. It’s being out in the community and educating the public on crime prevention measures, like the symposium on human trafficking that was held on Thursday in a local church.

This past Thursday, Jan. 9, was also National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

The Tidewater News thanks the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin City Police Department and all other local law enforcement agencies that risk their safety every day to ensure ours.
