Virginia Hound Heritage Inc. is ready to do its part in aiding the Hunters for the Hungry this hunting season. That campaign is dedicated to getting contributions of deer, which will go toward being processed as food for families in need.

Last year, to further aid in this collection, the non-profit VHH donated a new portable, walk-in meat cooler to the H4H organization during the annual Hoses and Hounds event. William Gillette of the VHH said on Friday afternoon that a second cooler has since been made available, and will be located at Adams Peanuts on Route 460 in Wakefield during deer season.

Quoting from H4H information, Gillette said that this past season 230 deer were donated to the campaign. That worked out to 44,000 meals of four-ounce portions of the protein.

“We [VHH] have become one of the top donors in the organization,” Gillette continued. “We’re right up in the top tier.”

Several Isle of Wight hunt clubs are also participating with Southampton and other surrounding counties this year.

Visit www.h4hungry.org for more information on how to prepare the deer before contributing the harvest.
