Southampton High School is currently on lockdown.
Alice Williams, director of human resources for Southampton County Public Schools, confirmed this to The Tidewater News shortly before noon today, Nov. 22, but said she was unaware of any details. She added that she believed the lockdown to be precautionary.
Williams also confirmed that Superintendent Dr. Gwendolyn Shannon was actively working with school authorities and the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, and said the superintendent would release a statement on the matter later today.
Maj. Gene Drewery, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, deferred to SCPS for details.
The Tidewater News will provide updates as more information is learned.
