FRANKLIN — Deaconess Lucy M. Ashburn of Cobb Street departed this earthly life to claim her eternal rest and peace on Nov. 7, 2019.

The Southampton County native was born on March 28, 1930, to James and Lucy Sharpe Kindred.

Mrs. Ashburn was a lifelong member of New St. Mount Holiness Church, where she served on the Deaconess Ministry; as president of the choir; secretary of the Sunday School; president of the Usher Board; and a member of the Hospitality committee.

She also was very active with the senior citizens at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jack Grant and Myrick Ashburn; and one son, Wesley Grant Sr.

She is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Washington-Porter; seven sons, Charles Linwood Kindred (Marsha), George Lee Kindred (Gina), Michael A. Grant, Kenneth Sharard Grant, Preston Ashburn, Ronald Wyche (Gail) and Myrick Ashburn Jr. (Diane); 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

Family and friends will celebrate her journey home on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1:30 p.m., in Scott’s Revival Center, 1816 South St., Franklin, with Bishop Charlie Collins delivering the eulogy; the Rev. Dr. Evelyn Square will be the host pastor. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.

The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 South Main St.
