Robert Elliott Mathias Sr.

GATESVILLE, N.C. — Robert Elliott Mathias Sr., 82, passed away on Nov. 4, 2019.
He was born in Nansemond County, Virginia, a son of the late Clayton Lemuel Mathias and Madeline Adele Branton Mathias.
Robert was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean War.
He later went on to become a long-haul truck driver.
Robert is survived by his children and their spouses, June Hart (Carl), Janice Kania (Sidney), Robert Mathias Jr. (Janice), Rita Gray (Zane), Larry Mathias (Susan), Andrew Mathias (Lisa); grandchildren, Jennifer Shields, Michele Taylor, Christopher Worrell Sr., Tammy Boswell, Rex Atchison Jr., Kathy Goynes, Brandon Myers, Adam Kania, Amber Gray, Parker Mathias, Josh Mathias, Logan Mathias, Bayleigh Mathias; great-grandchildren, Ashley Richards, Patrick Allsbrook, Zachary Pond, Kristian Worrell, Cassidie Worrell, Christopher Worrell Jr., Caleb Worrell, Clayton Gray, Matthew Gray, Brian McClean, Jamie Dutton, Kiana Dutton, Tristan Atchison, Dylan Atchison, Tyler Goynes, Bam Goynes, Khloie Davis, Kayleigh Gray; great-great-grandchildren, Drake Richards and Aryanna Antonelli; brother, Frank Mathias (Karen); nieces, Amy Spruell and Laura Mathias; and companion, Marian Brinkley.
The graveside service will be on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m., in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia, with Pastor Parker Mathias officiating.
Friends may join the family for a visitation on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk.
