The Southampton High School Indians achieved a much-needed win to keep their playoff chances alive. The Indians out-scored the Parkview High School Dragons with a 28-15 win on Friday night at Southampton High School’s football field.

Shaquil Jarrett put the Indians on the scoreboard with a touchdown run at the 2:51 mark in the first quarter of play. After the Indians recovered a Dragon fumble the offense scored again on the run by DeMartin Miles. Others scoring for the Indians were DeMarcus McDonald and Jarrett, who added another touchdown for the victory. The Indian defense was strong throughout the game. The Dragons scored in the second quarter and, by not throwing in the towel, scored in the last minute of the game.

Coach Travis Parker said after the game, “To God be the glory we are now one step closer to the playoffs. We definitely needed these last two games to end up 6-4 in order to stand a chance for the playoffs. We got one down but we still have one more tough game to go. We are going to come back and lick our wounds and go back to the drawing boards and continue to get better and as we get better we hope to peak right at the playoffs. But we have to get by Franklin and it’s not going to be an easy task, but we are up for it. If God says so, we will get that win, we will be in the playoffs and that is our goal for right now. So right now we are over 500 — we are 5-4 — and we are happy for that.

“For our seniors this was their last night as a senior on this field. I am so very proud of them, I got 21 of them and I am so proud of them and proud of the guys gutting it out. We still got a lot of things to work on and we will work on them. But we come together as a family, we have a great coaching staff, great fans, a great community and great players and I am just so happy that we got this win. ”

On Friday, the Indians will travel Route 58 to Franklin for the famous backyard brawl game at Armory Drive Recreational Park football stadium.
