Tidewater News staff writer Stephen H. Cowles presents the $250 check to Robin Burgess of Courtland for her photo of the Southampton County Courthouse. That was chosen to be the cover for the 2020 photo calendar, copies of which are for sale at the paper, 1000 Armory Drive.

Burgess said she’s been taking pictures off and on for “all of my life.” Over the years, she’s gradually used higher quality cameras.

This is not her first time to be recognized for her shutter skills. Burgess said she won once before in another calendar contest.
