FRANKLIN

Larry Blunt is a 1973 graduate of Franklin High School. While in high school, he excelled in several sports, and after receiving offers to play football from several division one programs he decided to attend Virginia Tech. His experience at Virginia Tech was excellent academically, athletically and socially. Larry was proud to earn a position on the varsity football team his freshman year, be on the Charter line of establishing the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in 1996 that is still on the campus today, and graduate with his degree in four years, which was a promise that he made to his mother.

After graduating from Tech, Larry helped his father, Gurnie Blunt, with his charter bus business for a year. The following year, he began teaching and coaching football, wrestling, and track at Franklin High School. Larry also began working on his master’s degree at Old Dominion University. He enjoyed working at his alma mater for seven years, but he had a calling to go into business for himself.

At about that time, Larry was introduced to a company named Primerica Financial Services. He has been blessed with success with Primerica for the last 30 years.

Larry and his wife, Mechelle, have one son, who is a basketball coach at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and one daughter, who is a nurse practitioner in Norfolk.

Larry attributes the success in life that he has had to his faith, being blessed with great parents and having a great high school experience as a student at Franklin High School.
