FRANKLIN

Franklin’s Department of Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning to celebrate the transformation of Armory Park’s tennis courts into a new, multi-purpose sports court.

The multi-purpose court will be the new home of Franklin’s youth soccer program, according to Interim Director of Parks and Recreation Sammara Bailey. The transformation, she said, was the result of a grant from the Obici Healthcare Foundation, which the city had applied for last fall.

Obici Healthcare Foundation President and CEO Annette Beuchler, who attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, said the grant was for “healthy spaces” to promote free, active play.

In addition to youth soccer, Bailey said the court can also be used for softball and football warm-ups, and for kickball and basketball.
