Capron Elementary School recently hosted its annual Title I Schoolwide Meeting, PTO Meeting and Family Reading Night.

Ann Jennings, PTO president, gave her report about fundraisers and upcoming events. Then Title I Reading Specialist Kathy Thompson gave a PowerPoint presentation informing parents about our school’s participation in the Title I, Part A programs. Parents learned about the school curriculum (SOLs), the forms of academic assessment and proficiency levels students are expected to meet, and the types of resources available to assist the children in academic achievement.

Beta Club members from Southampton High School assisted the children with reading their books to take Accelerated Reader tests while the parents attended the meeting. Then the parents took their turn to enjoy some quality time reading with their children.

Finally, the families were invited to the cafeteria to enjoy a dinner of pizza and cookies.
