FRANKLIN

The Franklin mill of International Paper has organized its first blood drive, and it will be done in memory of Bill Scarboro, who died on Sept. 27. During his career there from 1987 to its closing in 2010, Scarboro was employed in different positions, and even became notably involved in the repurposing of the site after its closing.

Reportedly, Scarboro learned while he was in the hospital of the mill’s plans. From his hospital room via email, he sent his appreciation of the team’s effort. Further, Scarboro shared that he received 12 pints of blood on Aug. 15 and “felt extremely fortunate to have this priceless resource available to him.”

The event will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Main Office Conference Room at the Franklin Mill.

For anyone who wants to donate, make an appointment on the American Red Cross website to ensure a smooth flow of donors throughout the day.
