WINDSOR, N.C. — Carlton Everette Pope, 74, passed away on Oct. 8, 2019, at Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton.
Born in Severn, North Carolina, and raised in Boykins, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Pope and Hazel Louise Johnson Pope.
Carlton was a 1963 graduate of Southampton High School, and was a retired chemical lab technician at Hercules.
He enjoyed metal detecting, hunting and fishing.
Carlton loved spending time with his great-grandson, Tucker.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lillie Byrum Pope; a daughter, Donna Pope Lafferty (Bryan) of Littleton, North Carolina; two step-sons Ernie Byrum of Newport News, Virginia; and Thomas Byrum (Robin) of Windsor, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Kayla Brooke White and James Dansey White Jr.; three step-granddaughters, Niki Hale (Austin) and Sophie and Jennifer Byrum; a great-grandson, Tucker Dansey White; a brother, Dale Pope (Donna) of Boykin; a niece, Samantha Dowd (Josh); a nephew, Matt Pope (Kaitlyn); and three great-nieces Logan and Kamryn Dowd and Kloee Pope.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, in Wright Funeral Home, Boykins, with the Rev. David Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in Boykins, and at other times at 18301 Virginia Ave., Boykins, and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire Department.
