ISLE OF WIGHT

The Chargers of Isle of Wight Academy made sure that the Broadwater Academy Vikings were not going to spoil their Homecoming by obtaining a 62-16 win on Friday. The Vikings took control of the game early in the first quarter with a score of 28-8. By half time they continued their offensive power and increased their lead to 41-16.

During half time the school continued its homecoming activities with a parade lead by Grand Marshal Jack Reynolds, followed by a host of floats. This was all climaxed by the entrance of the homecoming class representatives being escorted onto field and the crowning of Miss Homecoming 2019. After the announcement of the contestants, Homecoming Queen 2018 Miss Lauren Jones crowned the queen for 2019 Skylar Gray.

In the second half of the game, the Chargers maintained their control of both offense and defense until the final horn sounded. For the Chargers, Colby Williams lead in rushing with 175 yards and three touchdowns during the game.

The Chargers’ head coach, Dale Chapman, in comments after the game said, “Obviously, we are proud of our guys. We have made some big strides on most of our season and we have grown up a lot. We got a lot of younger guys and they are playing a lot of different positions. And so tonight they kind of went off; it was a homecoming game for them and they were all hyped up and excited all week for this game. So I think that it showed a little bit on the field.

“Our special teams did a good job. Our quarterback really grew up tonight, I think that he has struggled a little bit in the past, but he grew up some tonight. All of our running backs we going off and our line blocked well. I can’t say anything negative about what we did here tonight.”

This was the fourth win in row for the Chargers that now gives them a 4-2 overall record for the year and keeps them in contention of making the playoffs.
