DETROIT, Mich. — Evelyn A. Lewis of Detroit, Michigan, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sept. 22, 2019.

She was born in Southampton County on June 29, 1942, to Thomas J. and Frances Sears Pope.
Evelyn located to Detroit many years ago. Her family traveled to Detroit, brought her home and lovingly cared for her until her demise. She was gainfully employed with General Motors and retired after 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kenyatta Lockridge.
Evelyn is survived by three grandchildren, Kayauna Ewing (Taurrean), Ravyn Lockridge, Kaelyn Lockridge; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The celebration of Evelyn’s life will be at noon on Friday, Sept. 27, in Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 28668 N. Main St., Newsoms, Virginia, with the pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Cole, delivering the eulogy. Her remains will rest in the church for viewing by 10 a.m. The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
The service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
