CAPRON

Capron Elementary School recently provided its first Healthy School Market. This market is a grant-funded program that will be offered bi-monthly at our school. This opportunity would not be available without the partnership between the School Nutrition Department with Southampton County Public Schools and the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia.

Families were able to choose from a variety of fresh produce and vegetables including potatoes, onions, cantaloupes, oranges, apples, bananas and cabbage. They were also given healthy, kid-friendly recipes that could be made from the ingredients that were selected.

A goal of this ongoing program is to encourage early awareness of healthy lifestyle choices.

Being able to offer free fresh produce to our Capron community is something we are excited to continue to do this school year and look forward to making an impact in our community.
