CHARLOTTESVILLE — Richard W. Bland passed away unexpectedly at home in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Sept. 2, 2019.

He was a son of Norma H. Bland and the late Allen T. Bland of Courtland, Virginia.

He was a graduate of Southampton High School and The University of Richmond. Fond memories of Richard include his love of architecture and vintage film, both movies and television.

Richard is survived by his dear mother; brother, Robert A. “Bobby” Bland; sister, Betty Bland Hawkins (Howard); niece, Anna Elizabeth Hawkins; nephew, Aaron Bland Hawkins (Brittany); nephew, Beau Alexander Hawkins; great-niece, Charlotte Rose Hawkins; great-nephew, Tillson Bland Hawkins. Richard was very proud of the accomplishments of his niece and nephews and delighted in the company of his great-niece and great-nephew.

He is also survived by longtime family friend, Thomas E. Gilreath; and constant companion Max, his cat.

The private graveside service will be at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.
