Southside Regional Medical Center and Southampton Memorial Hospital staff will participate in a live on-air call center on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on WWBT: NBC12. Viewers can reach medical professionals by calling 804-345-1212 to discuss mental health and opioid addiction concerns.

We’re doing this to give people another option to seek help,” said SRMC’s behavioral health director, Lisa Castro. “These are difficult topics to talk about and having a professional just a phone call away can be the difference someone needs to help themselves or a loved one.”

SRMC has a 30-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit that offers individualized care in a safe, supportive environment, and develop comprehensive treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each person.

Opioid addiction continues to grow in Virginia. In 2017, the state saw more than 1,200 deaths with 300 in Central Virginia.

Substance use disorders affect all of us and because of that we can all be part of the solution,” said Sonya L. Lee, SMH Medical Detox Director.

SMH has the only medical detox unit connected directly to a hospital in the Western Tidewater Health District. The 10-bed medical detoxification unit offers private rooms in a safe and confidential environment where patients can focus on recovery.
