Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club does well at fair

COURTLAND

The Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club prepared for the Franklin-Southampton County Fair during June, July and early August with all entries due on Aug. 4. There were many categories for club members to submit entries — record books, posters, photographs, crafts, fine arts (drawings in charcoal, lead pencil, colored pencil, pen & ink or ink print or paintings using oils, acrylics, markers, oil pastel, chalk pastel or watercolors) and a category called trash to treasure, where you take recycled items to make art. The club also prepared a scrapbook representing our activities throughout the year. All club entries were submitted for judging and here are the results for the Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club:

The Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club set up a booth in the commercial building to display our entries and share information about 4-H and our club. Club members represented each day to talk to everyone who came by our booth. We would like to thank Tractor Supply for donating hats to our club and everyone who stopped by our booth supporting the Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club.

Britches & Boots 4-H Horse Club members enjoy many activities and give service to the community. 4-H has so many opportunities to offer youth ages 5-19. Younger members ages 5-8 join as Cloverbuds to learn about 4-H and about different competitions earning Cloverbud ribbons. Junior members ages 9-13 participate in competitions they choose, attend clinics and can participate in the District Horse Show to qualify for the Virginia State Horse Show. Seniors ages 14-19 compete as well as learn leadership skills to participate as counselors-in-training and counselors at the IOW/Southampton County Junior Camp; they can also attend Virginia 4-H Congress and/or become Horse Ambassadors.
