Work to begin on Mill Creek Drive bridge

ZUNI

Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will soon close a portion of Mill Creek Drive (State Route 638) near Zuni for bridge work.

The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 26. According to VDOT spokeswoman Jordan-Ashley Walker, the work will allow crews to complete a full replacement of bridge beams. The bridge, which spans Burnt Mill Swamp, was built in 1951.

A signed 1.8-mile detour will be in place, directing motorists from Mill Creek Drive to:

• Travel north on Yellow Hammer Road (State Route 645);

• Turn right on barrett Town Road (State Route 641); and

• Travel east 1.69 miles back to Mill Creek Road

Completion of the bridge work is expected in late September.
