On Wednesday at 7:43 p.m., Franklin Police responded to the 700 block of Cameron Street for an abandoned 911 call, according to department spokesman Sgt. Scott Halverson. On arrival, officers checked the area and were unable to locate anyone in distress. While investigating the area, an officer observed an individual known to be wanted for an outstanding criminal warrant as well as a capias warrant from Isle of Wight County. The wanted subject, Maurice Battle, was approached by officers who advised Battle he was under arrest. Police say Battle did not comply with the officers’ command and a short struggle ensued.

There were no injuries to the 19-year-old, however, one of the officers suffered minor injuries but did not need medical attention.

Battle was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer and resting arrest, and he was booked on the outstanding petit larceny warrant from Franklin and the outstanding capias from Isle of Wight County. Battle was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail under no bond.
