City hires new police chief

Steve Patterson has been selected as the City of Franklin Police Chief, according to city manager Amanda Jarratt. Patterson currently serves as one of the Deputy Police Chief’s in the City of Suffolk.

In this role he has commanded all three of their primary bureaus including patrol, investigations and administration.

Patterson has an associate degree in applied science in police science from Camp Community College; an associate degree in applied science in corrections, also from the college; a Bachelor of Science degree in governmental administration from Christopher Newport University; and a Master’s in public administrations from Troy University.

Patterson has also attended the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy 240th Session, the Critical Incident Management at Texas A&M University, the Senior Management Institute for Police at the Police Executive Research Forum, as well as several other professional executive law enforcement training schools.

“Steve comes highly recommended from his peers across the regional law enforcement community and we are confident that Steve will be a fabulous addition to the City of Franklin team,” Jarratt stated in a press release.
