Editor,

The countdown is on — one week until the 39th annual Franklin-Southampton County Fair. There have been all kinds of activities going at the fairgrounds. We have had board members busy getting the fairgrounds ready for all of our guests. The preliminaries have been done for everyone hoping for a spot in our annual talent show. The young ladies competing for the title Miss Franklin-Southampton County Fair have been out practicing their stage presence, as well as our all of our pageant contestants.

The Franklin-Southampton County Fair has a great 4-H competition and all the participants are getting their animals ready to show at all the fantastic livestock competitions during the four days of the fair. Make sure you stop by the livestock barn and support all these great kids, and show them how much we appreciate all the hard work they put in every year to be a part of this wonderful program.

We have all kinds of children’s activities planned on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. And don’t forget the ever popular watermelon-eating contest, registration starts at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.

We have the hotdog-eating contest again this year on Saturday and you can sign up the day of the event.

There will be all kinds of activities going on all four days of the fair, great music, fantastic food and midway rides and games.

Gates open on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 4 p.m. Plan to come out to the Southampton County Fair grounds for the biggest family fun event in Western Tidewater. For more information you can visit our website at: franklinsouthamptoncountyfair.org.

SEE YOU AT THE FAIR!
