Meherrin fifth graders receive scholarships

Recently, Meherrin Elementary School celebrated fifth grade students moving on to Southampton Middle School.

Sixty-seven students will be moving on and received a certificate of promotion, as well as, recognition for principal’s list, honor roll, perfect attendance, citizenship and student of the month.

During the ceremony two scholarships were awarded. Rheana Overman received the William Gould Drake Memorial Scholarship, and Jabriel Stockton received the Eric T. Mason Memorial Scholarship, both $200.

These students were recognized for their academic achievement, good character, and school and community involvement. The money will be used to begin or contribute to their college savings plans.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles came out to celebrate the Meherrin students.
